“It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
… Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecue around you. We were born to make manifest the glory… that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
– Marianne Williamson
My Background
My passion as a licensed psychologist has been to explore mind-body-spirit medicine and wellness practices throughout my career. I have trained extensively in meditative psychotherapeutic approaches at the Washington Center for Consciousness Studies, as well as in clinical hypnosis with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Somato Emotional Release with Dr. John Upledger, guided imagery with Belleruth Naparstek, Sound Healing with Jonathan Goldman, and in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR – proven highly useful for the resolution of psychological trauma).
In addition to my doctoral studies at Harvard, I completed a certificate program in International Trauma Studies at NYU, and have become a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider.
I created a Department of Integrative Medicine at a community-based Maryland Hospital in 1998, developing a specialty in helping people with chronic pain and illness. Eventually, I returned to my love of working full-time in a private practice as a psychotherapist, coach and facilitator of healing. It has been the most fulfilling career choice I think I could have ever made.
My Approach & Philosophy
I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. When we learn how to bring our minds and awareness together, we are more compassionate for ourselves as well as for others. We have more clarity about our purpose, are more engaged with the community around us, and are more able to achieve our most creative and authentic potential. I truly mean it when I say it is an honor to accompany others in their inner and outer journeys in life.
